Why I absolutey disagree with nowadays worship

We live in a world where people want to be amazed. As they go to shopping center, school or church. advertisers work to get people’s attention. As marketer I have to say that its pretty hard. Public is so full of everything. They just ignore normal stuff because it’s not modern or not enough innovation.

The same happens to church. Leaders try to make building comfortable for listening. Pick most interesting themes for sermons. Invite different pastors for the parishioners not to be bored from listening same voice.

And worship? It’s not easy too. How can we get people’s attention? Because you know.. they get pretty boring of simple singing. It has to be fun! Nowadays people’s time is very expensive. And they will not spend it on listening elderly people singing and simple preaching. So we just have to make big scene with decorations and lumiere. Get drums and rock guitars. We have to invite rap, rock or pop singers. Because it’s the only way for people not to get bored. It has to be loud that you will not hear your neighbor. We used to think that when we do that we gather people before scenes and this makes them close to God.

I noticed that nowadays people will not enjoy worship if it’s not

• professional ( using only professional singers and band players)
• funny (between songs you have to make them laugh or at least interested)
• fashion (Singers, players, decorations have to be modern fashioned)

All these are main components of contemporary “worshipping” God.  What??? Who said this? Are we reading same Bible? Because it says:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3 :16 

 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Ephesians 5:19-20

In fear ? I do not see fear of God when a dancer in jeans and tattoos singing rap.  Singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord does not fit into ¨funny¨ or ¨fashion¨.

We have forgotten that worshiping is only about praising God. We have turned it to enjoying music, dancing and clapping hands to one who is extremely talented.

I love singing to God. I love listening spiritual songs which I can call hymns. What I absolutely disagree in nowadays worship is when:

• singers asks listeners  to rise hands, clapping or scream something.
• singers tell or show you how its right to worship God
• singers are too focused in being professional
• singers dance. Specially women moving their body in seductive way.
• singers repeat one verse of song 5 or 10 times.
• singers sing with closed eyes.
• singers have the only goal is to make people act as they are enjoying songs
• the only way of singing at church is singing along the worshipping group.

These are many reasons why I love a capella music in church. It allows everyone to participate. It helps people actually listen what the words are. To the ones who disagrees with me I want to say. That all people have a choice. If they wanted to go to a concert they would go to a concert, but they went to church. And we made church to be a concert.

I remember that Bible says about Levites. they were kind of professional singers in church as compare to nowadays. But I dont find anything about being Levites in church services in New Testament! Do we continue to live as in Old Testament? Some people say “we should dance as David did” I remember joy of David and how he danced before God. I’m not in the group of people who judged him. But I feel like people have forgotten that worship is simple singing to praise God. Its is not a tool for attracting people to church. If we live godly life in our everyday life. People will see God through us.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  Matthew 5 :16

This is the best worship we can make on earth. This is the worship God made us for.
